From the desk of JIMMY HICKEY

THIMBLERIG RESEARCH Minister of Information

I have a reverence for the unusual and an enthusiasm for the irrelevant.

My playground is the borderlands and the fringes between reason and whimsy.

My curiosity takes me across cultures and disciplines to other times end places, and I explore these by creating Art and Craft.

My tools are my imagination, knowledge, and experience along with line and color, brush and canvas, wood, bone and brass.

On canvas I paint bold and vivid saturated color statements that capture moments in time that will never come again.

Sculpting and carving bone has allowed me to turn artifact into art and has given me some insight into the human compulsion for decoration.

As an animation artist and designer I create environments where the imaginings of others may live. I design and build the stage sets for ideas.

My writing, whether prose or poetry, enables me to create entire worlds inhabited by the unexpected.

My assemblages are fashioned from salvage, found materials, and odds and ends which are repurposed with a new reason for being as I put them together with craftsmanship and humor.

The Cabinets of Mystery are fashioned as "Schoolboy's Museums" which I furnish with with a juxtaposition of the artifacts of man and nature that urge discovery and wonder. Their purpose is for fun, befuddlement and education.

I have devised Thimblerig Research to be a place of invention, creation, wonderment and humor. It is the factory floor of my imagination.

Busking for pennies that long hot summer in Stonetown, Zanzibar.
